Each year, Pantone (the creators of the Pantone Matching System, or PMS, a standardizing color reproduction system used by designers) releases the “Color of the Year.” This year’s winner is “Radiant Orchid.”
The company released its decision at the end of 2013 and stated that the color was “captivating” and “magical” and that it “reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”
What’s the importance of the “Color of the Year?” The hue is chosen based upon its influence in the all facets of design, from fashion to interior décor and graphic design.
Since trends are dynamic, experts advise to accessorize with the color instead making it the focal point of your home or wardrobe. In other words, choose a throw pillow, vase or print that features the color instead of blanketing your entire home in orchid.
